Celebrating the Year of Cross Creek

On January 21, 2017, the “kickoff event” “Celebrating the Year of Cross Creek,” 75th Anniversary (1942-2017) will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Matheson History Museum in Gainesville The museum will have an exhibit on the St. Johns River called “River of Dreams”.
Dr. Kevin McCarthy, Professor Emeritus, University of Florida English Department will give the keynote address focusing on the chapter in Cross Creek, “Hyacinth Drift” about Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Dessie Prescott traveling down the St. John’s River. Kevin has an extensive background as a writer, author, and lecturer. He has published 35 books, 30 of them about Florida. He was also Executive Director of the MKR Society for 18 years and is still very active in the organization. Doors will open at 6:00pm with light refreshments and tables set-up to sell books by Rawlings. At 6:30pm, the Friends of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Farm will share the 2017 events plans for “Celebrating the Year of Cross Creek.” The Keynote talk begins at 7:00pm. Admission is Free.
