A Sunday Afternoon Hoecake Hoedown!
“If I asked a neighbor for some bread in an emergency, I should receive a pan of cornbread. It is the staple bread and the young Townsends were correct in believing that one must have it to grow on.” (Cross Creek 1942;208) Our Hoecake Hoe-down will demonstrate, in her kitchen, the variety of cornbread from hushpuppies to hoecakes that Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings writes about in both Cross Creek and Cross Creek Cookery. On Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 we will have cooking demonstrations during the house tours at 10am, 11am, and 1pm followed by a program and tasting event at 2:30pm. Recipes made right out of Cross Creek Cookery, plus creations by the Woodstove Sisters, Park Staff and Volunteers. Stefanie Samara Hamblen of Hogtown Homegrown will lead the program! Cross Creek Honey will show off their bees and honey. Chance Drawings will follow this cornbread extravaganza. Copies of Cross Creek and Cross Creek Cookery will be available for purchase.

Cost: $3 per carload park entry, $3/adult $2 per child house tour fee to see cooking demonstration on wood-stove. Cash or check only for park fees.
